Everybody knows that staying hydrated is important. The idea of drinking lots of water has been planted in our heads from an early age. It’s such a simple task, but is rarely a priority. Life gets busy and we are always on the go so sometimes it can feel like an inconvenience to remember to drink water, especially if you don’t have any on hand. Keeping a water bottle nearby is a good practice to ensure you stay hydrated throughout the day. You are more likely to drink something right in front of you than having to go to a different room.
Here are some tips to stay hydrated:
Know your baseline hydration level before making any adjustments to your daily routine
Keep track of your normal daily water intake for a few days to get an idea of how much water you are consuming. You may surprise yourself! Keep a mental note of how many times you refill your bottle. This will help you set accurate goals moving forward.
Don’t wait until your thirsty to drink
If you wait until you are thirsty, chances are you are already slightly dehydrated. This is a good indication that you haven’t been drinking enough water throughout the day. Remember to sip throughout the day!
Get creative
There are so many ways to spice up a plain glass of water! Try adding flavoured drops or mixing in fresh fruit. The combinations are endless and you can really get creative with it.
Eat fruits and veggies that have a high water content
Eating water dense fruits and veggies is a great way to easily increase your daily water intake. Watermelon, cantaloupe, strawberries, peaches and pineapple are great examples of nutrient dense fruits that contain lots of water! Cucumbers, zucchinis, radishes, celery and tomatoes are all good sources of nutrients and have a high water content.
