WHAT IS ACTIVE EXERCISE

Active exercise is any exercise in which a person must exert force to complete a move. The opposite of active exercise is a passive exercise, in which another person moves the client’s extremities to keep muscles from atrophying or better the client’s range of motion. One can use active exercise to improve one’s strength, flexibility, conditioning, and overall functional capacity.

Our trainers at Health Bound are fitness professionals who, using an individualized approach, assess, motivate, educate and train clients regarding their health and fitness needs. They create safe and effective exercise programs focusing on each client’s unique health and fitness goals. Our trainers work closely with Health Bound’s interprofessional healthcare team (e.g., Physiotherapists, Chiropractors, Occupational Therapists, and RMTS) to ensure a client-centered approach. WHAT TO EXPECT ON YOUR FIRST VISIT

During the initial assessment, the personal trainer will assess active/passive range of motion, basic postural alignment, and performance of foundational exercises and discuss goals, challenges, and barriers regarding the interpretation of exercises and dietary habits. Then, a client-centered exercise program will be developed in collaboration with the client depending on the client’s goals, barriers to function, and involvement of healthcare professionals.

  • Depression, anxiety & quality of sleep: Studies show that low serotonin levels in the brain may cause depression, anxiety, and sleep issues. Physical activity stimulates the release of serotonin and, in many cases, is preferred to the prescription of antidepressants.

What should I expect during my first visit?

Your first session consists of a questionnaire, aerobic and muscle strength tests, and a counselling session to set up your objectives. Here, we will come up with a routine based on the customer’s requirements, as well as highlight our active exercise strategy.

How often should I participate in active exercise sessions?

The recommendation is 20-30 minutes per session, and it is advisable to do 2-3 sessions per week. Still, the frequency might be varied and depends on the goals, types of training, physical conditions, and so on. We will come up with the best schedule for you.

What kinds of activities are included in the program?

Cardio exercises, weightlifting, stretches, and balance drills are all part of the planned programs. Clients are presented with challenging workouts that include the use of exercise equipment alongside the implementation of bodyweight exercises.

Is active exercise safe for older adults?

Absolutely. Our programs are adaptable for all ages. We concentrate on lowering fall risk, increasing general functional fitness and independence, and promoting mobility, strength, and balance in older persons.
