HOW MYNDMOVE THERAPY WORKS

This therapy works by eliciting robust muscle contractions in affected limbs and stimulating the neural pathways engaged when practicing and executing natural movements. Based on the concept of neuroplasticity, a new pathway for the intended movement is established.

This dynamic therapy can treat the whole arm from shoulder to fingers. Combinations of reaching and grasping movements targeted in therapy include:

  • Lateral pinch
  • Pinch grasp
  • Palmar grasp
  • Tripod grasp
  • Lumbrical grasp
  • Bilateral grasp
  • Forward reach
  • Side reach

The goal of FES is to enhance function of the upper limbs and ultimately to maximize independence and quality of life of patients following stroke, spinal cord injury, or other neurological injuries.

WHAT TO EXPECT DURING YOUR MYNDMOVE SESSION

Therapists who completed the MyndMove training course by MyndTec Inc. are specifically trained to safely and effectively provide MyndMove therapy. These trained therapists are occupational therapists (OTs) or physical therapists (PTs).

During each session, patients can expect:

  • Electrodes to be placed on the skin over the muscles to be stimulated
  • To feel a mild tingling sensation while the device electrically stimulates the muscles
  • To be asked to actively envision and attempt the desired movement
